It’s faster than doing it manually, but what I was really set on was being able to precisely measure and set the material I needed to grind off and have the rings gap squarely, and this did poorly on both. The clamping block has too much side to side play and ends up twisting one way or the other when moving it forward with the lever, this combined with the dial indicator jumping about quite a bit when grinding really threw off any measurement and frequently resulted in grinding way more from the outside of the ring than the inside, even when using the ring guides. If you want a hope of having your rings cut square with this, you need to use both hands to brace the clamping block and very, very slowly move it forward while trying to keep even pressure on both sides of the clamping block, and clamp way down on the ring clamp to keep the ring from moving. I tried doing this a couple different ways, and ended up grinding some rings way over when relying on the dial indicator. You also need a very long and thin, finely threaded bolt or rod to insert into the rear disc clamp so you can hold the shaft in place while you remove the front nut and mount the grinding disc - mine did not come with this. Thankfully I had a bolt on hand from something else that worked. It’s kind of disappointing as I was actually super excited to get this in and try it, but with such poor results I don’t think I’d buy this again - this isn’t the quality I was expecting for a $400 tool. The only thing I’d recommend it for is if you’re tired of manually grinding and want a flat base to brace your ring on when grinding it against an electric grinder - though at that point it might be cheaper to get a bench grinder with a 120 grit wheel and bolt a flat wooden block to your bench to brace on. Also, for anyone that’s interested in knowing beforehand, I think the nuts to mount the dial indicator and to mount the disc were both a 10mm.
