I’ve been using my Remington 5800 for about 5 months, and have grown to like it greatly. I was using a less expensive rotary shaver and could never quite get a shave I was really happy with. Here are things I learned using the 5800:1. A lighter touch does give a better shave. I’ve tried every pressure level as I learned this razor, and generally lighter is better.2. I had to find which direction of cut worked best on different areas of my beard. It doesn’t all grow in a predictable direction! There were a couple of spots I thought the shaver was failing on, until I altered the direction of movement, then I started getting those areas close too. Be a little patient - I had to - and you are likely to end up getting a good shave.3. Cleaning is easy, but not as easy as just running water over the head assembly! Pop the foil head off, use the included brush to sweep the whisker debris out of the cutters, then rinse with hot water. Set things apart to dry a while before you reassemble. My skin is somewhat oily, so a good cleaning takes a bit of effort but nothing objectionable. You might have a different experience at that point.4. The battery life is great. I always get at least five or six thorough unhurried shaves between charges.5. The only downside for me is the pop-up trimmer. It’s OK for squaring the bottom of my sideburns, but it’s necessary to shave the remaining stubble after using the trimmer. For me that’s not a big deal.If you want to spend more money, there may be better shavers out there. But I’m happy with my Remington 5800.I shave my whole face once a day. I bought this to replace an aging Remington shaver. This is very much equivalent to the old shaver and I'm satisfied with it overall. I also looked at some much more expensive shavers from Braun. The reviewers raved about how well the Brauns shaved even heavy beard hair.I took off one star because this shaver doesn't shave my face as clean as I would like in some areas. Even after going over it multiple times there's still a little bit of stubble in one place. It's the same as my old Remington in that regard. This product didn't come with a travel case, but the case from my old one works fine.On the plus side, I like the way the pop-up trimmer works. The Braun models require you to change the head to get a trimmer. The battery lasts for many days. The charger is the universal type that will work on 240 volt power in Europe. This shaver is a little quieter than the one it replaces, and is very easy to clean.(Please read my additional comments at bottom) My 1-star review: Been using Remington Shavers forever...50 years. My shaving habits: shave every day after evening shower, open foil and clean daily. Purchased F5-5800 11/24/21 and returned for a replacement thinking I had received a defective shaver: Very laud, poor close shave, & foil impossible to remove. Received replacement 1/24/22 in just one-day... amazing from Amazon. I decided to give it more time before writing this review. It's been a disappointing 6 months. The noise level is nearly unbearable. Laud and rackety rough sound unlike previous Remington's that were a smooth hum. The shave is anything but close. I've tried pressing harder and lighter against face. Tried going slow. It takes about 5 passes, and it is nowhere as smooth as previous Remington models. Finally had to use a nail file to pry off the foil to clean. Took about 2 weeks to loosen it enough to remove by hand. I'm thinking Reminton has changed the thickness of the foil and possibly the motor/recharge mechanism. It's just not working as expected and very much a change from previous Remington shaver purchases. After I wrote this review, I sent it to the Remington manufacturer. I must have hit a responsive chord as they replied to my inquiry immediately and send me a replacement Remington saying that they had a "manufacturing error and a bad batch" that were sent into the U.S. market (made in China!!). I have used it now for over 2 weeks. I am more than happy and now give it a 5-star rating. It's unbelievable quiet, shaves smooth with only one or two passes and the foil removed by hand without much trouble. The first charge has lasted 2+ weeks. Hope this helps. Dale, Redmond WAI I was looking for a replacement shaver with the three foil head design. The middle foil has been replaced with what looks like a mini double sided Edge trimmer.I was somewhat skeptical but this design works perfectly on longer whiskers that were neglected for a day or so. The three foils had a hard time with longer whiskers but just run this slower and it does it in a single pass - I love it,. bought a second one that will go in waiting in case they stop making these I will have a backup.I needed to replace my aging Braun shaver with a new one. Decided to get this over Braun for no reason. I still use a razor to shave. I don’t like to use a razor above my beard line toward my eyes. When I got older I started having whiskers there. I was afraid using a razor would make them thicker and darker. Anyway, Remington does a better job than Braun!! My skin there feels very smooth after shave. 2 issues to be aware of ( especially if you travel with carry-on only).1- it’s big and heavy. I wish it were an inch shorter like my old Braun.2- It is loud! You may need to close the bathroom door.At home, I care less about these two issues. But , on the road they might be a problem for some. Not a huge deal after all.Happy shaving.I have been looking around for a shaver for a while now, I purchased the F5-5800. After the initial 24hr charging I tired using it for the first time, I was impressed! The shaver blades move very quickly providing a very nice shave. Previous to this I always used the 3 head rotary shavers but this foil is nice. The build quality seems sturdy not a cheap plastic feel like the discount shavers. I recommend the F5-5800 I don't think you will regret it. Just a quick note, in the advertisement it shows the razor in a stand, disappointingly is does not come with one I really wonder why they have this pictured in the ad it is almost false advertising although it is not mentioned in the description. This shaver is the worst shaver that I have ever owned, by far and give an absolutely horrible shave. It was a total waste of money and I could not be more disappointed. I can't even think of one good thing to say about it and it will find its way, sadly, to the garbage can, in working order. I bought a Sweet LF triple blade rotary shaver to replace it and the Sweet LF razor is by far, the best razor that I have ever owned and I have owned many products from major brand like Remington, Braun and Phillips. The Sweet LF gives a shave as close as a disposable razor, with zero skin irritation in about 1 minute. I went from the worst shaver in the Remington to the best shaver in the Sweet LF. I was nervous about trying the Sweet LF, as I had never heard of the brand and it turned out to be the greatest razor that I have ever owned. I don't work for them or have anything to do with them. I am just a consumer and I want you to get a great razor.I bought this razor for my husband based on his selection. He quite likes it and has good things to say about it, so it's recommended. Here are his pros and cons.PROS - Visual guage lets you see how much battery life is left - works plug in or battery, good for travel - comfortable in hand - gives a close shave with extra cutting levels, good for beards - separate trimmer for sideburnsCONS- does not come with a case - cleaning, a bit difficult to take apart - average sound level, not quietHaven't used a Remington electric shaver for many years and after using Braun for the past 50 years, I thought I'd like to try Remington again. Shave is not as good as some of the reviews stated; cleaning under water is decent but don't run the water when cleaning or it will splash all over the place...unlike my previous Brauns; Price is cheaper than Braun..most are overpriced in my opinion; Remington replacement heads a great deal less costly than Braun; Remington nice looking and the battery level gauge is great. Not sure if I'd purchase another Remington though.I recently purchased this Remington F5-5800 razor to replace my old Philip rotary head shaver. I found that the shaver did not give as close a shave as my old Philip's razor. I do not have a heavy beard and even at that the result was very poor. My old Philip's gave a much closer and cleaner shave. As for cleaning the head, you have to be very careful as the blades are mounted on plastic parts and would be easy to break off. i am back to shaving with my old razor. i would definitely not recommend this razor to any one no matter what type of beard they have. Quite un-impressed with this Remington product
