I wondered if this book would resonate with me as so many of the Chicken Soup books do. I should have known the answer. You just can't go wrong with Chicken Soup! If there is anything we women do well, it's opening our hearts to others. These are stories of women who meet, mostly by chance, and end up forging the most awe-inspiring relationships--one-on-one friendships, trios, groups. Some of them bond because of shared grief. Some are all mothers. Some women have learned that diversity in friendship is the way to go. One group has married women, single women, career women, old women, young women. One woman learns from a friend who befriends a variety of women that all types of women can be friends when they open their hearts. I guess it's easier for me to cry when I'm reading these days than to laugh. I enjoyed the more lighthearted stories and smiled and felt my spirits lift, but it was the heartrending stories that made me cry which really made me feel a connection to these women. Another thing that helped me to feel close to many of them is that they all aren't "sorority sister" personalities--the type of women who bond easily. Many are shy and reclusive. Then they find that just one moment of reaching out ends in a friendship, sometimes a lifelong relationship. So there are lots of surprises in this book. Lots of diversity. Have tissues ready. Many of you will cry. Many of you will laugh more frequently than I did (I think I did laugh aloud once or twice). It's easy to feel connected to these women who give friendship a good name.
