This ice shaver is very fast. A couple scoops/cups of ice makes a large bowl or glass filled over the top of shaved ice. It is loud but it works so quickly that the noise isn't really an issue.There are a couple things I would change if I could though. The main problem is the shoot the crushed ice comes out of is so far back that it makes it difficult to avoid making a mess. Either the shaved ice spills out at the back missing the bowl, or water drips from it making a mess on the counter. I set a wash cloth underneath and hold the bowl up and towards the back. If they made the metal part you put the ice into slightly longer, or moved the return shoot farther up it would work better.I have found some 'how-to's' online to adjust the razor closer so you get a fluffier snow type ice. I don't have the nerve to try it, I would be afraid to break it, but it would be nice if there was a screw or something on the outside you could turn to adjust the blade if you have a preference. I would like mine to turn out fluffier but as it is now it still works out great for drinks and cold treats.After each batch of ice there will still be some ice chunks left inside of the tube. I use regular ice cubes that I make in a machine using bottled water. The shaved ice I get is soft enough to hold syrups and if you pack it down harder when you scoop it makes the perfect snowcone ice.I know this will be used quite a bit this summer. Perfect ice shaver for batches of margaritas and adult 'lushies.' The bright orange color is pretty and the rubber feet on the bottom keep it from sliding around the counter when you use it.I love this machine. It shaves my plain Jane ice tray ice wwonderfully. It is important to note that using less pressure on the little door while the machine is shaving will result in bigger pieces of ice. This is excellent for anyone who, like me is obsessed with shaved ice.This thing is awesome and great for the price!!! Way better built and more sturdy than the cheap 40$ plastic things that break fast and spit out ice chunks and take 5 minutes to grind a cup of ice!. Pay 2x that an you get a kick ass snow cone/ice shaver. You get a cup full of perfectly shaved ice in literally 5 seconds. You can have shaved ice for mixed drink or snow cones for a whole party in about 10 minute enough shaved ice for like 50 snow cones/margaritas!! Worth every penny!!!!Read the other reviews, they are generally spot on. It's loud. It's messy. But it does a great job. I have a "shaved ice" drink every night. Two things, keep a towel handy and be prepared for the ice to stick to the chute. It doesn't stick every time and I've found if you load the chute quickly and start shaving, it tends to stick less often. By-the-way, sticking isn't a big deal, it just means you have to knock it loose. It' more of a nuisance than a problem. Last comment, my only complaint is that I have no place to hide it. So it sits on the counter and, frankly, it's not a beauty, but oh' well.I loved how this machine shaved the ice smoothly and its easy to use. I have used it daily since we got it!! The only complaint would be that the ice is so cold it sticks inside then melts, so you clean it up but it melts and drips but I just have a dish mat underneath it so it doesn't puddle water underneath on my counter. I still love it and would buy it again and I have gotten a couple other people to buy to as well since we have gotten ours. Not quite shaved ice like you get in Hawaii, but so much better then a snow cone!!! Totally worth it if you are an ice lover. We usually go get slurpres or slushes all summer but this summer we enjoyed them from home instead!!! I love getting flavors from Hypothermias, using frozen concentrate or and even just eating the shaved ice plain. You can even make a snowball with the ice, so awesome!!
