After looking through multiple pages of uncrustable makers, I took a chance on this one.And it's delightful! Most of the other uncrustable makers I've looked at are like, a cookie cutter inside of a slightly bigger cookie cutter. All of them seem to have reviews about the materials being cheap and about bits of the plastic coming off into the food. This one, however, didn't have those reviews, and turns out there's a reason why!The cutting part of this one... Isn't plastic! It's more like an aluminum-ish metal ring. It's not so sharp that it'll easily cut you, but it cuts through breads wonderfully. It takes a little getting used to, and the seal isn't always perfect, but the vast majority of the time, you end up with a great uncrustable with a good seal! The only cleaning issue I've had is the ring of indents on the upper part. It can be a tiny bit hard to get in to clean those dips in the plastic. But, get a straw brush or something to run over each indentation, or just pay close attention when cleaning, and you'll be fine!~~~Here's some tips!~~~- get a really soft bread if you can, such as Bimbo-bread (you can find it at Walmart or Sam's Club for cheap!) or Wonder bread. I've used each tons of times, and they freeze super well!- sandwich sized snap-close bags work fine. I use glad flex n seal sandwich bags and they do the job great!- Depending on the bread you use, you might have to VERY GENTLY stretch the bread. As gently as you can so that you don't rip it, carefully pull various spots on the bread to spread it out just a little so that the sides go past the metal ring. You need the edges of the bread to overhang just a little bit over the metal cutting ring.- you can actually fill it a little bit thicker than you probably expect- these would EASILY last in a kid's lunchbox, especially if kept cold!- also great for mess-free eating on the way to work!- Fillings:A fave filling of mine is mixing peanut butter and Nutella in a bowl until it reaches the flavor balance I want, then spreading it on thick! I also do the same trick when making pb&js.IMPORTANT: when putting bananas or other fruit into the sandwich, smush them as best you can and mix them into the spread. By mixing the mushed fruit into the spread (albeit I've only tried with bananas), you ensure that the entire filling freezes at the same hardness! I once did peanut butter with banana slices on top, and the peanut butter thawed wayyyy before the bananas did. But the next time, I tried mushing the bananas into the PB and mixing it up, then spreading it on. And that fixed the issue entirely! Not to mention, it tasted wonderful!I'm certain you could also fill it with any meats or cheeses you know freeze well. If doing so, I recommend layering thin slices rather than using thick slices. It'll help with the thawing!
