My motor was very difficult to separate and reassemble for service. The installation was made easier by watching one of the many YouTube videos about servicing older EZGO motors. By placing the spring finger on the side of the brush, it stayed out of the way. Once everything was assembled, I just flicked the spring to the back of the brush and it was tensioned. Please note there is a difference between older and newer brush sets for these motors.
