I have been on the hunt for an outstanding canned New England Clam Chowder since the best stopped making theirs (Capt. Mariner's Seafood). I have tried just about all brands I can get a hold of, and the next best I found was Iggy’s out of RI, however the first batch of theirs was good, the second was a bit thin, but still good. I gave this a shot and upon opening the can, you could see there was lots of clams, more than any other I have tried, but it seemed thin as well. I went ahead and added a half of can of light cream, which is what I mix in with all my canned chowders, and it brought it to life. As it simmered on the stove and not brought to any sort of boil, it thickened up and became a great thick soup. Packed with clams and a balanced amount of potatoes, this has pushed itself past Iggy’s (although my stock of that wont go to waste) for #1. If you like a real, thick, standard clam chowder, not the ones with bacon in it, give this a shot with the half a can of light cream and I don think you will be disappointed.
